The BioWell Mentor’s Code

Mentors are experts with significant achievements in their fields, who volunteer their time to work with companies at BioWell. They don’t seek any financial reward, offering their deep knowledge and contacts without expecting anything in return. Their selfless contributions are key to the unique value and success of each BioWell program.

To support our mentors and maximize their impact, we’ve developed a Mentor’s Code based on our collective mentoring experiences. It emphasizes:

  • Engaging in thoughtful questioning.
  • Not anticipating personal gain.
  • Being genuine and practicing what you suggest.
  • Communicating honestly, even when it’s difficult.
  • Listening actively.
  • Fostering mutually beneficial mentor-mentee relationships.
  • Being accessible.
  • Supporting at least one company annually.
  • Differentiating opinions from facts.
  • Keeping information confidential.
  • Committing to mentorship wholeheartedly.
  • Admitting when you don’t have the answers.
  • Guiding without imposing decisions.
  • Welcoming collaboration with other mentors.
  • Remaining optimistic.
  • Offering precise, actionable advice.
  • Balancing challenges with support.
  • Understanding the challenges startups face.

To become a BioWell mentor:

  • Attend a training session designed for mentors.
  • Participate in at least two program events in the first month.

Additional mentoring notes at BioWell:

  • Stay connected with us about your mentoring journey.
  • Understand and align your motivations for mentoring with our community values.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding the sensitive information of the companies you mentor.

This approach ensures mentors know the expectations and benefits, maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of the BioWell mentorship program.
